Fear Nothing
Instinctively we fear things, from a very early age,
for perhaps irrational reasons, which may take a lifetime to assuage.
Of the unknown we hold terrors, especially of the dead,
and darkness is foreboding, even skeletons we may dread.
To a child a museum visit, may elicit trepidation,
add a mummified Egyptian Pharoah, and a tour guide’s clear narration,
and imagination escalates, to an alarming degree.
To escape this situation, how can the child be free?
It isn’t only children, who suffer in this way,
for many people hide, what disturbs them every day.
Many fear ghostly spirits, and so easily alarm,
But the dead can never hurt us, ‘tis the living that do harm.
If we take all daily worries, however great or small,
and offer them to Jesus, for He wants to hear them all,
He will listen to us, and help us bear our Cross.
Place trust in Jesus always, for Christ won’t leave us at a loss. Cjs.
Straining at Gnats
Jesus always told us, that we must follow in His way,
that actions have a consequence, so for guidance we must pray.
Life has complications, even the so-called simplest things.
Each person has ideas, and confusion this often brings.
Being so concerned, with the minutiae all the time,
could lead to loss of sight, of a far far greater crime.
Straining at mere gnats, yet swallowing camels wholesale,
even with good intentions, mean as Christians we will fail.
Some balk at killing a spider, an insect or a fly,
yet accept an unborn baby, is not wanted so must die!
No one to speak for the child, stating its only an embryo,
yet recognisable as a human, so into a carrot will not grow!
Women baying for death, for the child must not be born,
and on any who disagree, heaping insult and sheer scorn.
YET a chimp deserves some rights, and working for this end,
to the European Court of Rights, some a petition will send!
Has the world no heart, a monkey before a child?
Jesus warned us all, is our integrity now defiled?
Of course there is no God, derisory voices insist,
and religion has no place , this Jesus did not exist.
But Christ was truly born, in the annals of history is found,
and we that believe in Him, by His Truth are forever bound. Cjs.
Age is but A Passage
Age is but a passage, of months or even years.
The number is not important, ...more relevant are fears.
For worrying exacerbates, the wrinkles and the strain,
so cast aside their yoke, there's so much now to gain.
Grab each opportunity, firmly by the hand,
for truth and justice work, then all will understand
tis not how many years, you notch up on your belt,
its how you live your life, and how for others you have felt.
Give and you'll receive, more than ever this is true,
It’s better to show love, and be judged by what you do.
Any face-lift or botox, may halt a wrinkle line.
But vanity is selfish, and at best a waste of time.
For the years will change our looks, no matter what we try,
But a smile and kind demeanour, any aging will belie.
Beauty of the soul, and generosity of heart,
helping all that are in need, that’s the message to impart.
So accept the subtle changes, for at death the Lord will ask,
“ Did we give to aid the poor, was that our main life’s task,
or our resources did we spend, in improving of our face?
Consider now this question, would our answer us disgrace? Cjs.
