I write for fun, fulfillment, and other cathartic reasons.
But I also hope that in some small way I can help others in desperate times and desperate situations. My faith is a great comfort to me and I want to let others know they have a God who loves them and is waiting to help them in life-
-if only they will turn to Him.
God bless you. Cecilia.
The Arrogance of Self
The decisions they are mine, for I’ve the right to choose!
I am so important, I am not about to lose.
The temperature’s sub freezing, but I’ll not wear a coat.
I don’t think I need it, nor a scarf about my throat.
No matter what the danger, never will I freeze.
I’ll jay walk o’er the road, just where I do please.
When driving in my car, red lights I will ignore,
and do the speeds I wish, for I’m above the law.
I will find a tactic to always get my way,
No opinion supersedes, those I hold today.
Oh the arrogance of self, how obnoxious it can be,
just another kind of pride, that brings vulnerability.
Danger’s overlooked, maybe once too often,
the inevitable will happen, unless our attitude will soften.
Jesus tells us always, in all go through the Lord.
If we decide alone, our efforts will be flawed.
Humble we must be, and listen to advice,
or sadly we may find, harm will happen in a trice.
We don’t know all the answers, so open minds we have to hold,
and not ignore the perils, lest others will us scold. Cjs.
Born For What?
How wonderful this baby, creation's pure delight,
robust full of vigour, free from any blight.
We all desire perfection, any less can bring such pain.
Any physical or mental defect, leaves happiness on the
wane.
That may be our feelings, not necessarily the child.
Infants know not this worry, and to situations become
reconciled.
Love and understanding, individual needs to address
are the rights of every person, which carers must assess.
What gives us the right, to gauge another's worth,
to say their life's not valued, if shouldn't have come to
birth
To reach their true potential, it's not for us to say.
Our duty is to help them, not put obstacles in their way
Accept that every person, is so special in God's sight,
we must protect their dignity, in whatever is their plight. Cjs.
Caring Means Sharing
Day by day in the papers, is reported the life of the rich,
their parties and errant behaviour, seen as merely a glitch.
Frippery luxury and such, do account for millions that’s spent.
Mansions abound for a few, for others not even a tent.
Cardboard boxes their home, no shelter from rain nor the cold.
Little chance of surviving a winter, let alone in time to grow old.
Billionaires flaunting their assets, jewellery adorning their hands,
with no apparent compassion, for the poor in less fortunate lands.
Is this how we should be living, is this the way to show care?
Love of neighbour is our duty, whatever we have we should share.
We may not know that some wealthy, make charitable gifts by the score.
We only see what is obvious, and perhaps their life-style deplore.
Instead of judging another, we must be concerned with our part.
Are we generous with time and our money, donating straight from our heart.
And avoiding the pleasure of praise, by not publicly stating our acts,
keeping vanity out of the limelight, being modest about all the facts.
Jesus has said that rewards received in this world here on earth,
will negate any benefit in heaven, where the gain has more infinite worth. Cjs.
